Trainz: A New Era Community Edition Now Available By Shaine Bennett, December 16 2014 Today, thousands of people from around the world began downloading the precursor to the next generation of Trainz; Trainz: A New Era - Community Edition. This morning we sent out thousands of emails to our core fans advising them of the download link and install instructions. It is only thanks to your support that has enabled us to work on throughout the year, building the new E2 engine, integrating the main Trainz elements our fans have come to love and creating the new features that will help set apart from all the predecessors. Some people had the game downloaded and installed in just over an hour, while others have spent hours waiting for their Internet connection to deliver this new experience to their PC. In testing yesterday, our web guy (who is in the UK at a wedding) could get 28MB/s downloading the file, while from our office we were stuck with 100KB/s due to a dodgy routing through Sydney. Same server, different routing Most our fans are keen to try out and we are keen to hear their feedback.
And feedback has already started to come in. Back in October we said we would not be ready to deliver the final product to you in December as we had originally planned. Instead, we chose to deliver CE as an interim build to allow our fans to explore the product and give us their feedback. The journey has only just begun and we thank you all once again for helping set us on this path which we firmly believe will take us way beyond anything seen in this genre before.
21 November We've come a long long way since the first release of Trainz A New Era 'Community Edition' way back in December 2014. After many months in development on our latest free update for TANE, and with enormous support from over 2,000 of our core community helping us beta test and report their feedback, we've made a huge number of improvements and fixes.
We've been busy making Trainz more stable across more configurations, offering better compatibility with a wider range of content, and fixing those annoying little things that sometimes make you want to tear your hair out. With over 500,000 items created by over 10,000 people over 15 years, Trainz has a lifetime of content to explore.
With all this content available for free download the task of ensuring everything works perfectly is an enormous undertaking. Clearly we can't do everything ourselves, and that's why the Trainz Community support is so vital to the ongoing success of TANE. To those of you who understand that this is a journey and not a destination, please continue to enjoy the ride. For those who would prefer to focus on the flaws rather than the flowers, we would encourage you to let us know of any issue you find through our reporting form you can find.
About This Game Service Pack 2 Hotfix Update Released! (Nov 2017) The latest massive update for Trainz: A New Era delivers better stability, smoother performance and improved compatibility, along with plenty of bug fixes and enhancements across the board. After almost 3 years of free updates since the first 'Community Edition' was released in 2014, with each major update we've been working hard to ensure that all players can experience the best Trainz has to offer. Platinum Edition BundleIn conjunction with the latest update, we've also released a 'Platinum Edition' bundle to provide fantastic value for new or existing customers. New customers can get almost double the content that was included in the original Standard Edition, at 75% off the regular pricing. Existing customers can also expand their collection with 75% off the items they don't already own. In addition, we've retired the 'Deluxe Edition' with it's four extra routes and replaced it with the mcu-better-value Platinum Edition.
What makes Trainz so special? Trainz: A New Era is far more than a train simulator. Sure there are hundreds of locos and dozens of routes and sessions you can drive in the Platinum Edition Bundle. But the real power of Trainz comes with all the extra things you can do beyond the builtin-in content set. All the tools to build your own railroad are included, and in fact, every route you see in Trainz is created by customers just like you. There are now well over 10,000 routes available on the Trainz Download Station (DLS) that you can download for free and enjoy.
So when people tell you 'you have to buy lots of DLC' remind them that the choice is theirs, with plenty of high quality free routes and content available on the DLS. Key Features All-new graphics engine with full world shadows and per-pixel lighting Multiplayer Share your enthusiasm with other rail fans and combine your efforts with others to operate a working rail line! Our most accurate simulation yet with real time world physics and editing tools!
Our physics use a variety of configurable inputs such as engine powers, train weight and rolling resistance whilst taking into account factors like track gradient, curve resistance and track adhesion for each train car when accelerating or decelerating. The brand new real time physics editing tools allow players to tune physics 'on-the-fly' to take their simulation's performance even further. Brand-new Real-time Physics Editing tools enable users to enter known specifications to accurately monitor all the forces at work. Things like tractive effort, drawbar pull or brake pipe pressure can be monitored at a specific point along the train and input values adjusted 'on-the-fly'. By analysing and tuning performance without leaving the simulation, real-world train characteristics can be matched perfectly. (It's a bit like running a virtual dynamometer car). If physics aren't your thing, don't worry.
You can leave the fine-tuning of your favourite locomotive's performance to the experts whilst still having the choice between 'Realistic Mode' or 'Easy Mode' driving options. Procedurally animated spline junctions An updated set of track laying tools are provided in Surveyor to automatically adds frogs/vee, blades, and checkrails in the correct place on the tracks when making a switch, turnout or junction. The blades then animate as the junction direction is changed. Realistic cab sway and external train motion Using a new suspension modelling system and additional track and traincar parameters, cab sway and 'car rocking' from both internal and external perspective provide more realistic train motion visuals. When running on rough track, cars will wobble and shake independently. Smoke and weather affected by world objects New particle effects and collision systems will prevent rain penetrating a tunnel, smoke will billow out from the underside of a bridge or the top of a tunnel and all particle effects will change velocity, direction and flow more naturally.

It's a full year since we reached our funding goal and today we have reached another huge milestone in the history of Trainz. Today our eligible Kickstarter backers will receive the 'Release Candidate' of T:ANE 'Community Edition'!
While you can look at the swf files to see what people can do (and some of the people here do really nice work) what you need to look at in detail are the swi files - the ones that Swish will load and let you study, so you can see how things are done. Download sample swf files free. Almost every thread in this forum contains some files for downloading. Originally posted by DeanNelson I was wondering if someone could direct me to sample.swf files for download so that I could see how some are made?
The release candidate build is a final pass to identify any 'showstoppers'. A showstopper is defined as an issue that prevents the game being installed or played by a reasonable percentage of users. Isolated issues with certain hardware or certain game systems are not seen as showstoppers (although clearly showstoppers for those affected). All going well, we will then release the 'Community Edition' build next week for the enjoyment of our Kickstarter Backers and pre-order customers around the world. T:ANE Timeline. Take a visit to this to discover more about the history and future of Trainz: A New Era.
You can also visit our forums for the latest discussions about the including a list of the Known Issues that we will be fixing over the coming weeks, and a list of the fixes we have completed over the preceding two Beta releases. What exactly is Community Edition?
For those who haven't been following us closely, there may still be some confusion around exactly what Community Edition is all about. When we realized that we wouldn't be ready to release T:ANE on our original schedule, we decided to create an interim product that was 'almost T:ANE' (but lacking the final two months polish, bug fixing and graphical eye-candy effects.
This special version of T:ANE gives our core fans a look at the future of Trainz before everyone else. “CE” will deliver all the core Trainz systems you have come to know and love including the Surveyor tools, and Driver mode, plus the new features such as “Test Track” (the graphical physics tools), procedural junctions, train motion based upon track condition and suspension parameters and full world collisions for rain, snow and smoke (excluding splines at this stage). It also includes all the final content which, for the Deluxe Edition, means 8 Routes, 44 Sessions, 51 Locos, 261 additional items of rolling stock and almost 15,000 other game assets. Keep your fingers crossed the final testing doesn't highlight any new showstoppers and we'll have CE ready for you next week for some serious holiday mode enjoyment! We are receiving a number of questions about the status of pre-orders, 'T:ANE' and 'Community Edition' - so today's update will focus on answering these questions and helping everyone understand the process over the coming few months. If you have any further questions, please use the Comments option here and we will monitor these over the coming days to add further information as required. I have backed T:ANE on Kickstarter - do I still need to pre-order?
Probably not - check your reward tier on the main campaign page to see if your reward includes 'T:ANE' or not. If you pledged at Track Crew ($25) or above, your reward includes a version of T:ANE which will be made available to you (either digital or boxed) when T:ANE is released in 2015. What are the different versions of T:ANE? In July we announced that there would be three versions of T:ANE available. Each version has the same core features but different content sets. Find out more about each version.

Posted: 15 December.DISCLAIMER. I purchased the platinum edition for $25.00 which is a couple of hundred dollars off the regular price, so I may be a bit overly optimistic.
This game is more of a model railroad builder than a simulator, although it does get quite a few aspects of simulation right. If you want hardcore simulation I do not recommend this, on the other hand if you like building routes or driving trains in third person (although a first-person view is possible) then this is the sim for you. Trainz: A New Era is running a very old graphics engine and the whole setup in general is quite aged, but the gameplay and content you get from it is satisfactory. What you make is where it really counts.
I've not tried the multiplayer, but the concept is quite intreguing and I will say it is unique to this sim vs. Others such as DoveTail Games' Train Simulator 2018. Pros: -Tons of content is available on steam, TrainzPortal, DownloadStations, etc.
Trainz A New Era Community Edition Download
To expand your experience. (Most of it is paid.) -The audio is usually very satisfying and blows other games such as Train Sim 2018 out of the water.Multiplayer -Seasonal changes (the season may change the texture on your locomotive or the trees, etc.) -Freedom: you can build a route the way you want it, and do what you want to do on it. Cons: -Graphics are not terrible if you stick with T:ANE content and not the included content from past Trainz versions, but they certainly aren't top of the line.Simulation: as I said previously this game is not a great simulator, at least not when it comes to interacting with buttons and levers in the cab. (only a few are modelled) On the other hand, driving physics seem quite good.Framerate is not on-par with modern standards. (Turning the quality of shadows down will greatly improve framerate.) 7/10.
